floor socket box
A floor socket box, also known as a floor box or poke-through box, is a rectangular or round electrical box installed flush with the floor surface. It provides access to electrical outlets and other wiring connections in the middle of a room or open area. Floor socket boxes are typically used in commercial settings or homes where there’s a need for electrical access in the center of a floor for powering computers in an office or appliances on a kitchen island.
There are two main types of floor boxes:
- Shallow floor boxes: These are designed for installation in floors with limited depth, such as concrete floors.
- Deep floor boxes: These are designed for installation in floors with more depth, such as raised access floors commonly found in data centers.
Floor socket boxes typically come with a metal cover that protects the outlets from dirt, debris, and damage. The cover is usually flush with the floor surface to minimize tripping hazards. Some covers are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and blend in with the surrounding floor.
